Bike the Block

In the mood for a very last-minute fundraiser? The Bikes and Rec Family is hosting a lap riding event to benefit the Boise Bicycle Project.

That’s the good news. The bad (or at least not-so-pleasant) news is that it begins at 5 p.m. tonight. That’s not a whole lot of time to gather the requested per-lap pledges, but anything is possible for the motivated rider.

Participants will be doing quarter-mile laps around Sore Bloke’s block (otherwise known as 902 Sullivan St.). Riders are asked to get pledges from anyone they can and the donations will then be given to BBP to fund bicycle safety and education programs.

More money will also be raised through a game of Assassin. Basically, pay $1 for an assassin tag to hang from your bike seat. Those with tags will be trying to assassinate each other by pulling the tags off, while keeping their own tag secure under their seats. Everyone who makes it to the end of the ride with their tag will be entered in a drawing for some swag.

Every human is welcome to participate—including children of attentive parents—but dogs are not welcome, so leave them home. A grill, cooler and condiments will be provided for anyone who wants to barbecue, so bring your own grub.

All bikes are welcome, and helmets are highly encouraged.
