Every week we bring you news from one of the official Martini Mix-Off judges, former editor/owner of Boise Weekly Bingo Barnes, who's in the middle of his seventh year as a judge. He takes a couple column inches every week to educate BW readers on the nuances of cocktails, sometimes includes a shout out to a bartender he thinks is looking mighty fine, and often grouses about the collective ignorance of drinkers as a whole.
Barnes is one of five judges, including BW publisher Sally Freeman, Idaho Statesman food critic and NPR commentator Guy Hand, self-described cocktail aficionado Dean Martin and seven-time returning judge Doug Alley. They've spent three Thursdays bar hopping on a quest to find the city's best martinis and cocktails, and tonight is a final civilized boozefest before the big awards gala next weekend. Tonight at Gusto (509 Main St.), you can get $5 Absolut martinis all night long.
But enough of all the official stuff.
We stumbled across the unofficial judging team. Check it out here.
