BW Auction Raises Big Money

Wednesday night Boise Weekly held its seventh annual Cover Art auction, a yearly event in which we sell off a year's worth of BW cover art.

Thanks to the evening's entertainment, singer Anna Sali, who garnered a number of compliments for her performance.

Auctioneer Johnna Wells, who returned for her third BW Cover Auction this year, also deserves a big thank you. As do our sponsors AATronics Inc., Blue Dog Bar & Gallery, Idaho State Historical Museum, O'Michael's Pub and Grill, and Tavern Wine Market.

This year's proceeds netted nearly $13,000, bringing the total to date to more than $78,000.

Now the tough task of giving away this year's money begins. In the past, BW turned over proceeds from its annual cover auction to arts organizations benefiting children's art opportunities. In 2006, BW funded the creation of a public work of art, and in 2007, BW created a private grant to be dispersed to arts organizations throughout the city.

Last year's grant recipients include BOSCO, The Deal, South Junior High and Boise City's Department of Arts and History.

To apply, answer each of the following questions as completely and accurately as possible:

1.How does your organization support local visual artists?

2.Will this grant fund a new project or an existing project?

3.What is the projected budget for the project?

4.How will the grant be used?

5.Where is the location of the project and what is its accessibility?

6.How will this project benefit the community and support the mission of the Boise Weekly Cover Art Auction?

Applications are due to Boise Weekly before Fri., Jan 30, 5 p.m. Boise Weekly is located at 523 Broad St., 208-344-2055.
