Bogus Opening

Don't get too excited just yet, it's just the tubing hill.

Bogus Basin officials announced earlier today that the ski area's tubing hill will open this weekend, along with a few kilometers at the Nordic Center.

A full ski season though is still quite a few inches away.

The GoldRush Tubing Hill will offer three two-hour sessions on Saturday and Sunday, at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. Tickets cost $9 per person and can be purchased in advance at BogusBasin.org.

The resort will also open 3 kilometers of Nordic trails this weekend as well. The lodge will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and cross country skiers can purchase discounted trail passes for $3.

The J.R. Simplot Lodge and Pioneer Lodge will open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and offer a limited menu for the weekend.

For those thinking about poaching some powder before the main hill opens, think again. The area's minimum base is being closely guarded, and only a handful of pre-scheduled lessons will be allowed on the slopes. Everyone else is asked to stay off the snow.
