Locals can still call it "Bogus," but the nonprofit ski area above town is tweaking its name.
The difference is slight: Instead of using the word "resort" in its title, the new name of the hill will be "Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area."
"It was our choice to call Bogus Basin what it is," said Gretchen Anderson, spokeswoman for the ski and snowboard resort.
The place used to have "ski resort" in its name, but Anderson said that didn't reflect the massive amount of snowboarders that take to the hill every week. Nor did the word "resort" reflect the nonprofit nature of the community snow-play area.
"It didn't quite feel right to be a 'resort,' and a nonprofit," Anderson said. "That just didn't feel right to us."
Bogus received its official 501(c)3 nonprofit status in 2005.
Of course, budgets are tight at Bogus, so you might not expect to see signs changing soon. But the new logos, some of which also reflect this year's 65th anniversary of the resort, are already in circulation.
