Things are going to be a mite different in the Capitol press corps next year. Two of the Idaho Statesman
's regular Legislative reporters won't be on hand for much of the festivities.
For starters, longtime Capitol correspondent Greg Hahn is leaving the Legislature beat, to cover health care more full time.
His boss, Statesman
Topics Editor David Staats, said Hahn will be breaking some new ground for the paper.
"We haven't treated medicine as a beat," Staats said. "We're really starting from scratch there."
Hahn will also help with some editing chores, Staats said.
It's a big change for Hahn, who has become a fixture at the Capitol after several years on the beat. He's also been a regular panelist on the Idaho Public Television show "Idaho Reports."
Also leaving the Capitol beat -- and town altogether -- is Shawna Gamache.
Gamache, who began working at the Statesman
just two years ago, is off to work for a Seattle business paper, the Daily Journal of Commerce.
In her short time at the Statesman
, Gamache chased stories about prison problems, state adoption issues, and the daily grind at the Legislature.
"Shawna has really developed nicely as a reporter," Staats said. "She has done some good work for us. We're sorry to lose her and wish her well."
Gamache, who has family in Seattle, said she will be covering green building and architecture.
