A pile of us BW
types are here in Portland, at the annual Association of Alternative Newsweeklies Conference
Think of it: We're everywhere. Papers just like BW!
Because I'm attending a panel discussion with famed blogger Arianna Huffington
, it seems only fair to blog a bit myself.
We're attending a number of handy meetings and confabs, and also to whoop it up
a little bit in the City of Roses (don't look now, but the photog snapped BW
Editor Shea Andersen in the mix, too).
We'll be back Sunday. We do have a paper to put out after all. In the meantime, we're sharing ideas and tips from fellow alt-weekly journalists, editors, managers and salespeople.
People always know BW
by its unique cover layout; we're just about the only weekly newspaper that puts original local art on its cover instead of an image or design that reflects a story within the paper.
This has always been a love-hate thing for our peers in the newspaper world. They don't always get it, but some of them wish they had the guts to do what we do. Others just think we're nuts.
I'll leave you with a Huffington gem, referring to blogs but also to papers like ours: "The moment you express something, others follow."
We'll report more when we return.
