Thanks to John Miller at the Associated Press for getting to the nitty gritty
: Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's trip to Cuba, covered so exclusively by BW
, cost the state $13, 443.
Frankly, I'm surprised it was that cheap.
Records obtained by the Associated Press show that it cost roughly $643 per day to for each state official's airfare, as well as daily reimbursements, and such things as gifts for Cuban officials and name tags, according to records obtained by The Associated Press.
So far, that means that even with the net yield of a $100,000 contract out of the trip, that it was at least better than a wash.
But that's because they had lots of private help. From Miller's story:
The rest of the $85,000 total for the trip was paid by 29 private business people, aid-agency workers and guests who accompanied Otter's first trade mission as governor.
Nice work if you can get it.
