Mayor's Aide Busted for DUI

Riley put on suspension

Mayor Dave Bieter's right-hand man, Jade Riley, was arrested for driving drunk Friday night. Bieter said in a release today he has placed Riley (photo below, on right) on two weeks of unpaid leave after the incident came to light.

Riley, 31, is an assistant to the mayor for administration and policy. He has held the position since January 2004.

“Jade is a valued staff member, but any incident of this nature is serious,” Bieter said. “I have the utmost confidence in Jade’s abilities, and he clearly recognizes the need for stern discipline.”

No telling just yet how the arrest might affect Bieter's campaign for re-election. Bieter is running for re-election against Boise City Councilor Jim Tibbs, a former interim Boise Police Chief.

Riley is the former director of the Idaho Democratic Party. After assisting with Bieter's 2003 campaign for mayor, he was hired as Bieter's chief of staff.
