Two and a half months after a man was brutally beaten to death beneath the 16th Street and Americana Boulevard overpass, Ada County Prosecutors have filed a second degree murder charge against a suspect who was already behind bars for the beating of another person.

The body of 37-year-old Russel "Rusty" Bitton was discovered on the morning of Oct. 28. The Ada County Coroner determined that he had died of blunt force trauma to the head. A makeshift memorial marked the scene were Bitton was killed.

“We take the loss of life very seriously, and it was very important for us to bring justice for the victim’s family,” said Sgt. Mark Barnett of the Boise Police Criminal Investigation Division. “We appreciate the courage of the witnesses who came forward with information from the very beginning of this case. We believe that continued cooperation helped get this investigation to this point and provide some answers for the victim’s family and friends.”

Boise Police Detectives say they have developed additional evidence connecting the suspect to the death of Bitton.

24-year-old Scotty Turnbull now faces an additional charge of Second Degree murder and aggravated battery.
