A Boise man is behind bars, charged with a felony, after Boise Police took him into custody Monday afternoon following a standoff in which a so-called MRAP was deployed.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, law enforcement were dispatched to the 6700 block of West Newman Street. That's where a man told officers he feared for his safety after being threatened by the suspect with a knife.

Police said they attempted to speak to the suspect, but he refused to come out of the home. That's when the Boise Police Crisis Negotiation Team and Boise Police Department Special Operations Unit were deployed to the scene.

Ultimately, the incident ended peacefully at approximately 2:30 p.m. when the suspect surrendered.

Scott Sams, 30, of Boise was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault. He's set to be arraigned later today.
