An Oregon parent is suing his son's school district for more than $600,000, saying his son was beaten up by bullies on a school playground. The father, Gregory Bang, says his son was bullied last spring at Cal Young Middle School in Eugene, Ore.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports the suit, filed Jan. 7 in Lane County (Ore.) Circuit Court, alleges that school officials negligently left students unsupervised during a lunch period when four older boys allegedly attacked Bang's son.

The father says one of the assailants intentionally threw a football at his child's head. The father says a short time later, another boy tackled and punched his son and then other boys joined in on a four-on-one fracas, with one assailant allegedly choking Bang's son. The father said his son suffered injuries to the face, head, neck and torso and continues to suffer psychological damage.

The Register-Guard reports that police did investigate the incident and charges against the four alleged assailants were settled with "accountability agreements."
