Canyon County Rep.: There Will Be a Statehouse Add the Words Hearing in 2015

Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter hinted as much at the height of this past fall's gubernatorial campaign, but a Canyon County member of the Idaho House said Wednesday he fully expects a formal Statehouse hearing on Add the Words during the 2015 legislative session.

This morning's Idaho Press-Tribune reports that Rep. Brent Crane told a Nampa Chamber of Commerce panel that "there will be a hearing on adding the words 'sexual orientation' and 'gender identity' to the Idaho Human Rights Act for employment, housing and accommodation." Crane quickly added that he "still does not believe in forcing people to perform same-sex marriages if it goes against their religious beliefs."

Crane said he wasn't certain if an Add the Words hearing would first surface in an Idaho House or Senate committee.
