Months-Long Boise Investigation Triggers Human Trafficking Arrest

by

A Garden City woman has been arrested and charged with human trafficking after Boise Police say they've busted up her operation involving a minor.

The Boise Police Gang and Violent Crimes units report that they received information from probation and parole officers that a minor was being exploited by the suspect, and after several months of investigation, with the cooperation of the Boise Narcotics Unit and the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, detectives went to a Boise apartment early today and arrested the suspect.

Idaho State Code defines human trafficking as:

(1) Sex trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such act has not attained eighteen (18) years of age; or

(2) The recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery.

29-year-old Jessica Kauffman of Garden City was booked into the Ada County Jail on charges of procurement of prostitution, soliciting a minor for prostitution and human trafficking. She is scheduled for arraignment the morning of Friday, Dec. 12.
