Power to the People? Not So Much in Eastern Idaho

Thousands of people in Eastern Idaho have been left in the dark for the past few days.

This morning, more than 4,000 Idahoans woke up to no power in the Bannock County communities of Lava Hot Springs and McCammon and the Caribou County community of Grace. Crews from Rocky Mountain Power were able to restore power to some of the residents but their estimated time for full restoration was expected to be early afternoon.

In the Jefferson County community of Rigby, thousands of residents were without power through much of the day Saturday. Rocky Mountain Power said a pole fire triggered that outtage.

Meanwhile a winter weather advisory is in effect for that region, continuing through much of the day Tuesday. Snow was expected to sweep into Eastern Idaho by late morning and intensify through the afternoon and evening. Driving is expected to be hazardous on mountain passes.
