Tragedy marred the holiday weekend Friday night when a 47-year-old man was killed while riding his bicycle on Lake Hazel Road. Ada County Sheriff's deputies confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene after he was hit in an intersection by a Ford Taurus that was traveling northbound on Meridian Road. The sheriff's office said there was a stop sign controlling traffic on Lake Hazel Road but there was no stop sign or signal for traffic on Meridian Road.

As of early Saturday morning, the victim had not yet been publicly identified. The driver of the Taurus, a 42-year-old woman, was not injured.

But the tragedy became even worse when approximately one hour after the bicyclist was killed, another vehicle drove past sheriff's deputies and into the crash scene. The male driver of the vehicle was tested and blew a blood alcohol content level of .231 and was promptly arrested.

52-year-old Gerald Makovsky Jr. of Boise was booked into the Ada County Jail on a charge of excessive DUI after Sheriff's Deputies said he blew nearly three times the legal limit. He bonded out of jail and has a court date set for Monday, December 1st.
