Daredevils Tell Times-News That They're Still Revving to Jump the Snake

Remember all those wild plans to jump over the Snake River Canyon to mark the 40th anniversary of Evel Knievel's ill-fated jump?  Well, September's anniversary has come and gone, but this morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the plans are still very much alive.

"Big Ed" Beckley told the Times-News that he has just wrote a check to the state of Idaho for another year's lease for the north side of the canyon as a possible landing or launch area.

"We are going ahead with our plans to secure a broadcast contract and jump the Snake River Canyon with a rocket-assisted motorcycle in 2015," Beckley wrote to the Times-News. Last summer, FOX backed out of a possible deal to televise a jump this fall.

"When FOX dropped the show in July, there was no time to get another TV deal," said Beckley. "And without that, we were not going to invest one more dime into this. But we are steady on course to hopefully secure a multi-million-dollar broadcast contract."

Meanwhile, Hollywood stuntman Eddie Braun, part of a second team that hopes to jump the Snake, also told the Times-News, "The plans are still the same." Braun said his project is "95 percent set to launch," and that his rocket was ready but he was still talking to advertisers, sponsors and broadcasters.
