Thanksgiving travelers might want to take note of a report from Seattle's Sea-Tac airport, one of the region's major hubs: Luggage theft is on the rise.
, "Thieves can be brazen," adding that the crooks snatch a bag in front of other travelers but pretend it's an honest mistake when they're caught. Additionally, Port of Seattle police say passengers walking to the gate who turn to get a bite to eat are also easy targets.
"They know that there're cameras in the airport, they know there's a police department in the airport and they are still brazen enough to come in and steal right in front of cops," Det. Darin Beam told KOMO-TV.
To date, 2014 has seen 197 luggage theft reports at Sea-Tac; compare that to 97 reports in 2011.
But law enforcement say arrests are up as well: 19 suspects have been arrested. Police say the suspects were responsible for nearly a third of the alleged thefts.
