A motorist crashed a vehicle into an Idaho Falls church Nov. 25, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage. And, oh yes, the driver was 12 years old.
The Idaho State Journal reports
that the 12-year-old boy, along with another 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, took two vehicles—a 2000 GMC Yukon and 2000 Cadillac STS—from their parents without consent. The 12-year-old was driving the Yukon when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the New Life Church on 12th Street in Idaho Falls. Shortly after the crash—at 3 a.m.—one of the parents called police to notify them of the accident.
The children were released to the parents' custody. The children will likely receive citations, according to a spokeswoman from the police department.
Meanwhile, church officials said the vehicle crashed through a foyer and wall.
"The car went up the stairs and stopped about four feet from where I stand every week,” Jay Spangenberg, pastor of New Life Church, told the Journal
, adding that a waterline was also broken in the process.
