A familiar name is heading to Boise Mayor Dave Bieter's inbox, as hizzoner solicits applicants
to fill the soon-to-be-vacant seat of Councilman David Eberle.
Adam Park, who just last month stepped away from his post
as the longtime face and voice of the Bieter administration, told Boise Weekly
today that he would be submitting his name as a possible successor to Eberle.
Eberle told BW
in 2013 that as he was completing construction of a new home in Garden City, he was also considering retirement from the Boise City Council. Eberle was first elected to the Council in 2003, and re-elected by wide margins in 2007 and 2011.
"I've accomplished almost everything I wanted to. So, yes, it's time to step down," Eberle told BW in July 2013.
asked Park this morning if he would consider applying for the job, which would require recommendation from the full Council and a formal appointment from Bieter, the former spokesman said, "Yes, I am planning on submitting my name for the open City Council seat."
"After I made the decision to leave the Mayor's Office, I started looking for ways that I could stay involved with the city and put the experience I gained over the last six years to good use," Park wrote in an email. "I still care deeply about the work the city is doing and support the Mayor and Council's vision for Boise. My hope is that I can continue to contribute to that vision as a City Council member and still have time for my family and the other projects I hope to pursue."
In particular, Park pointed to the vibrant conversations surrounding transportation, jobs, early childhood education initiatives, increase support for arts and culture and the creation of a new Bown Crossing Library.
Applications for the seat must be submitted by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21.
