While Boise voters headed to the polls Tuesday morning to consider a $17 million bond
that would upgrade or rebuild four of the city's fire stations and fund a new training facility for firefighters, crews were racing to the scene of an early morning blaze on South Cole near Ashland Road.
Extra engines were summoned to the scene of the garage fire, which threatened its attached home and nearby houses. A mother and son were able to get out of the home and escaped injury. The flames were contained by 8 a.m., but extensive damage had already been done to the structure.
Morning commuters were detoured away from the incident and fire crews are expected to be on the scene in case of any flare-ups.
