The North Idaho Violent Crimes Task Force is alerting the public to be on the lookout for a suspect in the wake of a shootout in Benewah County.
On Friday morning, Coeur d'Alene Tribal Officers attempted to stop a white Chevy pickup, just north of Plummer. The vehicle was believed to have been driven by John Crispin, who has a history of offenses, including aggravated assault, battery, resisting a police officer and firearms violations. But the vehicle failed to stop at the roadblock.
That's when law enforcement pursued the vehicle north on Highway 95. At one point, Crispin jumped out of his truck, fired multiple shots at officers and took off on foot.
Tribal units were joined by sheriff's deputies from Benewah and Kootenai counties to search the area between Plummer and Worley. Police are asking the public to avoid the area if possible.
Crispin is considered armed and dangerous. And if anyone has information, they're urged to call 208-245-5555.
