Officials at the University of Montana, who have been dealing with a rash of sexual assaults in and around their campus that prompted the U.S. Justice Department to launch a full investigation
, had yet another incident to report Monday.
This morning's Missoulian reports
that a U of M student was the alleged victim of physical and sexual assault at an off-campus residence. A suspect, 20-year-old Zachary Newbary, has already been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and sexual intercourse without consent.
The victim told Missoula police that she "thought the whole night that he was going to kill her," reported the Missoulian
. The victim had been bruised and beaten when police arrived on the scene at a Missoula apartment building. She told law enforcement that she managed to escape her attacker once, but that he jumped out a window and grabbed her again, dragging her into an alley.
After the woman was interviewed and treated for her injuries, the suspect was booked into the local jail a few hours later.
