Sun Valley Lodge Accused of Age Discrimination in Former Employee's Lawsuit


An age-discrimination suit against the Sun Valley Resort has moved its way into federal court.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that Brenda Smotherman says she was 57 years old in April 2013 when she was terminated by the resort's Warm Springs Lodge because of age discrimination, vioalting Idaho's Age Discrimination in Employment and Idaho Human Rights acts.

Smotherman said she was a full-time seasonal employee and when the lodge reopened for the summer in 2013, she was not brought back and was told that new, college-aged workers would be hired instead.

Smotherman is asking for damages in excess of $25,000.

She filed the suit in Blaine County District Court in July but the case has now been moved to federal court in Boise, where a scheduling hearing will be held in October.
