Facebook Continues Raking In the Cash While Publishers Start Holding Back Data


Is the Facebook bubble about to burst?

Time Magazine reports that's the supposition from Princeton researchers who analogize the life cycle of social media to diseases.

"Social media is like a disease that spreads, and then dies," they say.

Researchers with Princeton's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering insist Facebook could lose 80 percent of its "peak user base" between 2015 and 2017.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that a growing number of retailers and publishers are tiring of Facebook's tracking technology and doing everything they can to block data from flowing into Facebook. "The concern underscores the love-hate relationship between website owners and Facebook," writes the Journal.

Meanwhile, the financial viability and popularity of Facebook still can't be denied. Though it is still only 10 years old, it took in nearly $8 billion in revenue in 2013 and boasts approximately 1.28 billion users.
