The 10-10 ordinance
, which permits alcohol consumption in a section of Julia Davis Park on Boise State University Bronco football game days, will continue for its second season, despite not being in effect for the Blue and Orange Game in April.
The Broncos' next home game, against the Colorado State University Rams, is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, with a late 8:15 p.m. kickoff.
The ordinance creates an area between Broadway Avenue and Capitol Boulevard, bounded by Beacon Street, Potter Drive, University Drive and Chavez Lane. Within the zone, alcohol may be consumed from opaque plastic cups without alcohol labeling. Glass containers, liquor bottles and beer cans are not allowed, and, of course, alcohol may only be consumed by persons 21 years of age or older.
The Boise City Council cleared the ordinance in August 2013 and it has since been touted by the Boise Police Department as a way to mitigate law enforcement on game days by giving fans a legal place to consume alcohol. During the last Bronco football season, the BPD reported
that it handed out fewer drinking citations, though it also reported that underage drinking was on the rise.
