BYU-Idaho Student Drowns In Kayak Accident

Witnesses said a BYU-Idaho student was wearing a life jacket when he went kayaking with three friends Aug. 30, but he drowned shortly after his kayak was swept into a tree along the edge of the South Fork of the Snake River near Idaho Falls.

KIDK-TV reports that 26-year-old Scott Hart was in a two-person kayak with his wife Marcia. Both were Brigham Young University-Idaho students. When the Harts' kayak got into trouble, Marcia Hart was able to climb to shore. Two other friends, each in single-person kayaks avoided the tree and called 911 for help.

Marine deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office worked with Idaho State Police to recover Hart's body.
