Idaho Man Charged With False Car Theft Report After Binge Drinking and Blackout

A North Idaho man who went to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office in a panic, saying his car had been stolen, found himself behind bars. It turns out that the car wasn't taken, it was sitting outside of a Post Falls bar where the man had been drinking all day.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that Jonathan Woffenden was arrested for filing a false affidavit for a stolen vehicle. He told law enforcement that his car was taken from outside of his home.

But the owner of Bob's 21 Club in Post Falls told authorities that the car was parked outside of the bar through much of the day.

The police report indicates that Woffenden later said that he had indeed been at Bob's 21 Club and another bar before blacking out. He added that things "became a blur" before he went to the police station to report the false theft.
