UPDATE: Two Boise Gas Line Leaks Fixed After a Day of Tangled Traffic, Evacuations

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

Crews from Intermountain Gas completed repairs Wednesday afternoon to the second of two separate gas line breaks. Both accidents were caused by construction crews.

The first incident occurred on Mountain View Driver near Cole Road; the second was on Orchard between Targee and Overland. Both leaks were fixed Wednesday afternoon, but not until after a full day of disruption.

Evacuations of homes around both scenes ended when law enforcement gave the all clear.

UPDATE:  3 p.m.

Boise Police report that a gas line leak in the area of Mountain View Drive and Cole Road was repaired by mid afternoon Wednesday, after tangling traffic and causing a power disruption for a few hours.

A backhoe operator reportedly hit a gas main Wednesday morning, causing the leak. Police needed to evacuate four nearby homes and temporarily disrupt power to the neighborhood, because of a threat of lightning. By mid afternoon, the repair was complete, power restored, and neighbors returned to their homes.

But crews were still on the scene of a second gas line accident, this time on Orchard between Targee and Overland. Traffic was still being detoured around the area and as many as 10 homes on Orchard between Targee and Spaulding were evacuated.

UPDATE: 12:45 p.m.

Due to a quick moving storm, accompanied by lightning, crews have shut down electricity temporarily while repairs continue to a ruptured gas main near Mountain View Drive and Cole Road.

Approximately 10 people in four homes were asked to temporarily leave their homes while repair crews were fixing the leak.

Meanwhile, a second gas leak was reported just before noon, closing traffic on Orchard Street near Interstate 84. That leak is also being attributed to a construction accident.

Boise Police have evacuated 10 homes on Orchard between Targee and Spaulding streets. Traffic is also being rerouted at the intersection of Pond and Hillcrest.

Boise Police are restricting traffic near the busy intersection of Mountain View Drive and Cole Road due to a broken gas line.

A backhoe operator reportedly hit a gas main early this morning, causing the leak. Boise Police and crews from the Ada County Highway District arrived on the scene and blocked off northbound traffic at Cole and Ustick roads and the intersections Mountain View Drive and Glenwood Street, and Mountain View Drive and Clement Road.

Additionally, some residents in nearby homes were asked to leave the area.

According to Boise Police, repairs could take most of the morning.
