City officials in Pocatello are coming under fire after citizens learned that their tax dollars were paying for construction work on other cities' streets.
"We have to put a stop to it," said Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad.
KIDK-TV reports that the Pocatello mayor and council are just now learning that paving other cities streets occurred without approval, constituting potential misuse of public funds. It turns out that roads in American Falls, McCammon, Driggs, Tetonia and Victor were repaired using Pocatello equipment and money.
Blad said trade agreements have been reached among cities in the past, but he said there are still questions about who organized the recent work.
"Were there taxpayer dollars spent there?" asked Blad. "How much? Was there a reimbursement? What was the trade, if there was a trade? We don't know the answers to those questions right now."
Blad told KIFI that he has ordered a formal investigation into the matter, and if anything is out of the norm, the issue will be forwarded to the Idaho Attorney General's Office.
