A federal judge has told St. Luke's Health System that he doesn't want to wait anymore while the hospital appeals a ruling to cut its ties to Saltzer Medical Group.
In January, U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ruled that St. Luke's needed to divest itself of its ownership of the Nampa-based Saltzer, saying it was a violation of antitrust laws. But St. Luke's immediately filed an appeal to that decision, triggering a paper chase that could take years.
And on Thursday, Winmaill handed down another order to St. Luke's, saying it needed to immediately begin dissolving its ownership in Saltzer.
"There are a myriad of ways [St. Luke's] could continue to use [its Saltzer connection] to its advantage," wrote Winmill. "It could cause substantial injury to consumers."
