Several hours after a Boise woman told law enforcement that she had been sexually assaulted on the Boise Greenbelt near the Broadway Bridge—prompting local media outlets to publish a description of the alleged assailant—the woman recanted her story and now faces possible criminal charges.
Boise Police detectives said after a daylong investigation, the woman told police late Sunday night that the crime did not take place.
The woman had told police earlier in the day that she had been attacked when she was walking on the Greenbelt beneath the Broadway Bridge. But again, detectives said there was no sexual assault in that area and there were no outstanding suspects.
But investigators are also quick to remind the public that news of an isolated case such as this should not deter victims of sexual assault from reporting potential crimes.
Filing a false police report is a misdemeanor under Idaho Code.
