Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation Director Nancy Merrill is retiring, the Associated Press reports.

Merrill indicated that she will leave the state agency in the "middle of July." She became director in 2009.

During her tenure, the agency's budget decreased from $17.7 million in 2008 to $1.3 million in 2013, though it manages 30 state parks. This year, lawmakers set a state parks budget of $3.5 million.

State officials told the AP that they are conducting a national search to replace her.
