UPDATE: Child on a Bike Seriously Injured in Collision on Fairview Monday

The Boise Police Department released an update on the status of the child hit by the large construction truck while on his bicycle Monday afternoon. The boy remains hospitalized with serious injuries. BPD officers are continuing to interview witnesses and others who may have information on the incident. They say parents, neighbors and the driver of the truck who hit the child have been cooperative with the investigation.

At 3:28 p.m. on Monday, witnesses said they saw a 5-year-old boy going to cross the street on his bike, following a 5-year-old girl, when he was hit by a large commercial truck in an eastbound lane of Fairview Avenue at North McKinney Lane, just east of Cole Road.

The Boise Police Department said the boy was taken to the hospital immediately, suffering from serious injuries. The driver of the truck—a Caldwell man—was not hurt.

Fairview’s eastbound lanes were closed for several hours following the accident as police officers investigated the crash and experts reconstructed the incident.

“Officers want to do all they can to find answers as to just how this collision happened that left this child injured,” said Lt. Andy Johnson of the Boise Police Patrol Division. He said he appreciated motorists’ patience as the very busy road was closed at the busiest part of the day. “If this were a member of our family, we would want a very thorough investigation and that’s what officers are doing.”
