Ten teenagers from around the Magic Valley are raising money to get to the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship April 23-26 in St. Louis, Mo.
The Twin Falls Times-News
reports this is the second time the team–the Tesla Coils–have qualified for the world championship. They’re the only Idaho team to qualify this year and will compete against 128 other teams from 17 countries.
At the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competition, the team will need to have a robot put plastic blocks into pendulum goals, then drive up a ramp and pull itself up to a pull-up bar. Each team will make a 15-minute presentation to the judges.
The team received instructions in September and had until early January to build their robots. They need to raise $3,000 more to reach their $14,000 goal to make it to St. Louis. The team is not affiliated with any school. The team members plan to hold a yard sale to make the extra money.
