The Idaho Department of Fish and Game confirms that wildlife officers and Garden City Police hunted down and killed an adult mountain lion Feb. 6 near the Riverside subdivision.

A Garden City homeowner called police in the late afternoon hours of Feb. 6, saying the female mountain lion was outside his home. That prompted wildlife officers to team up with a houndsman and Garden City law enforcement to track the animal, which was discovered shortly thereafter near another neighborhood.

A Fish and Game spokesman said since the animal was moving toward homes, the kill order was given.
