A Western Idaho community is mourning the death of a New Plymouth man who was killed in an explosion earlier this month at a fishing resort in Panama.
The Panama News reports that Frank Lee Margrave was killed Jan. 14 during a blast at the Panama Short Fishing Lodge near Panama's port of Boca Chica. The Panama News wrote that Magrave was celebrating his 59th birthday at the lodge when a "blaze started as an electrical fire in the downstairs room of the lodge," triggering the blast. Relatives said the inferno "disintegrated" all of Margrave's possessions, included his watch.
Investigators have already determined the incident as a wrongful death.
Panama News reporter Eric Jackson wrote, "One would expect that when Panama’s important tourism industry is involved, there would be fire inspections to catch such things. However, for tourist facilities and just about everything else in Panama, fire inspection barely exists."
A memorial service is set for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Fruitland Heart and Home Hospice.
