Money received by Idaho farmers and ranchers from the federal government decreased from 2012 to 2013, the Associated Press reports.

According to University of Idaho agricultural economists citing data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the approximately $500 billion 2013 farm bill, over which Congressional Democrats and Republicans fiercely wrangled last year, paid less to Idaho's farmers and ranchers.

John Foltz, dean of the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, further said that government payouts to Idaho agricultural enterprises will likely continue to decline in the future.
