A Boise man is behind bars today in the wake of a house fire.
Police were called to the Columbia Village neighborhood in East Boise at about 11 p.m. Dec. 31. A neighbor subdued the flames, which caused minor damage to the victim's home. The victim was able to provide information about a possible suspect who had been seen in the area at about the time the fire started.
Officers on the scene found evidence that the suspect had intentionally set the fire while the victim's family was in the home. They also found evidence that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the fire.
Nicholas Orr, 33, of Boise, is charged with first degree arson—a felony—and was booked into Ada County Jail Jan. 1.
First degree arson is the burning of a dwelling or other structure where other people are normally present. If convicted, Orr faces up to 25 years in prison or up to a $100,000 fine.
