Nampa Student Killed in Bus/Truck Collision

Tragedy marred Thursday morning's commute in Canyon County.

The Canyon County Coroner has confirmed that 11-year-old Daniel Cook of Nampa died at the scene of a crash involving a school bus and a dump truck at the intersection Deer Flat and Happy Valley Roads, just before 8 a.m. Four other children were injured in the crash. Two of the four were rushed to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise; the other two were transported to Saint Alphonsus in Nampa.

The bus, which school officials identified as Bus No. 11, was headed toward Crimson Point Elementary.

Law enforcement confirmed that there were twelve school children aboard the bus at the time of the crash. Uninjured children were released to their parents.

According to Idaho State Police, the bus was traveling east on Deer Flat Road and the truck was traveling north on Happy Valley Road.

As part of the ongoing investigation, police investigators are reconstructing the crash to determine the exact cause of the accident.
