The community will say goodbye to 36-year-old Brandon Erickson today when firefighters, law enforcement, friends and family participate in what is expected to be a large memorial service for the former Eagle Fire Department Captain.

Erickson died Nov. 21 after complication from back surgery in connection with injuries he suffered on the job. It was the second such procedure since 2012 when Erickson was injured on a call while working with the Meridian Fire Department. Erickson worked for five years as a firefighter and paramedic for the Meridian department before joining the Eagle Fire Department in April of this year.

Today's memorial service begins at noon at Eagle Christian Church. Following the service an Eagle fire truck, carrying Erickson's body, will lead a procession of fire vehicles to Meridian Cemetery. A reception is scheduled after the burial at Meridian Fire Station No. 1, across the street from the cemetery.

A spokeswoman for the Eagle Fire Department said once the cause of death was determined, a federal process will decide if Erickson died in the line of duty.
