Be afraid of the cash register. Be very afraid.
This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press chronicles a bizarre tale from check-out line No. 2 at the Coeur d'Alene Kmart. The Press had solicited its readers to share their haunted tales and a one cashier shared her "ghost in the machine" story.
Tamara Dobbs, who says he's been working at the North Idaho Kmart for a year, said she discovered on her first day that "it didn't behave or act like all the registers." She added that she's pretty sure that a poltergeist haunted her register was a male. A store manager confirmed that the 15-year-old register regularly "loses its mind," according to the Press.
Employees said the register freezes up, dumps its memory and transactions vanish, but when technicians come in to offer repairs, the machine appears to work perfectly.
Rachel Kulcza, founder of the Post Falls-based North Idaho Paranomal Squad told the Press, "I would check into it if they've had any employees who have passed away."
