A Mormon missionary involved in a vehicle collision in Bingham County on Sept. 3 has succumbed to his injuries. According to the Idaho Falls Post Register, the death of Taylor Shane Ward, 19, of Vacaville, Calif., was confirmed by church officials on the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 6.
According to Idaho State Police, Ward, who was a passenger in a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze driven by fellow missionary John Floyd, 20, of Deep Run, N.C., was critically injured when Floyd failed to yield to a stop sign at an intersection on State Highway 39 south of Rockford. That's when a Ford F350, driven by a 23-year-old Blackfoot man, struck the passenger side of the Cruze.
Ward was taken to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, where had been in critical condition and on life support since the collision. Brain activity ceased Wednesday evening, the Post Register reported. Floyd sustained minor injuries, according to reports.
According to a statement from the LDS church to the Post Register, Ward is the 10th Mormon missionary to die from illness or accident this year, out of approximately 77,000 missionaries serving worldwide.
