Sara Youmans, 17, of Ketchum, was just selected by the USA Cycling National Road Cycling Team to compete at the Union Cycliste Internationale Road World Championships in Toscana, Italy Sept. 22-Sept. 29.

USA Cycling, based in Colorado Springs, Colo., announced on Tuesday the 29 riders that will represent the United States in Italy. Youmans rides for Stranamanti Cycling/Keller Rohrback Cycling. She is one of three junior women who were chosen as discretionary picks, according to the Idaho Mountain Express.

Youmans is the only Category 1 Junior Woman racer in the nation. Decreasing categories represent higher ability levels, with Category 1 being the immediate step below professional level. She’s been cycling competitively since she was 11 years old.

She won 15 state championships in all three road cycling disciplines: road, time trial and criterium, in both Idaho and Washington. She has also won a national time trial championship.

Youmans is one of three Idaho cyclists to make the team, including William Barta, 17, of Boise and Kristin McGrath of Boise.
