The Ridge Fire, burning 14 miles northeast of Lowman, has now torched 4,810 acres and is 16 percent contained. Nearly 400 personnel are battling the blaze including eleven 20-person Hotshot crews with eight helicopters for support.

Fire managers say they'll focus on the northwest corner of the fire where activity is highest and terrain is most challenging. Today's forecast of cooler weather is expected to enable crews to make progress in containing the west flank.

Four additional 20-person Hotshot crews arrived on the scene July 24 and were immediately assigned to the area between the Red Mountain and Castro fires. The crews are camping directly on the fireline to enable better and earlier access. Meals, water and supplies and flown in to the so-called "spike camp."
