A Boise man is behind bars, charged with attempted murder, after Boise Police said the suspect pulled a gun on officers in an apparent attempt to shoot them.
Boise Police responded to a call of a woman saying she was a victim of domestic violence Saturday night at a home near Five Mile and Ustick roads. That's where law enforcement first met the suspect. Police said the man reached for a handgun from atop an entertainment center and began turning toward the officers. After a struggle, the man was disarmed and taken into custody. No shots were fired. Officers said the man had grabbed the gun with the intention of shooting the police.
During the struggle, one officer suffered injuries to his hand. He was treated and released from a local hospital.
The suspect also suffered injuries during the struggle. While being treated for injuries to his face at a local hospital, police said the suspect kicked an officer in the chest. Following treatment, the suspect was booked into the Ada County Jail.
James Twitchell, 55, of Boise is charged with two felony counts of attempted murder, two felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and domestic assault.
