A Melba man is behind bars after Canyon County Sheriff's deputies said they discovered a pipe bomb in his car.

Law enforcement stopped to help the suspect, whose car was broken down on the 7000 block of Highway 45, on the evening of July 4. When deputies checked his identification, they discovered he had been driving under a suspended license. Asked if he had anything illegal in the vehicle, the suspect admitted to having a pipe bomb with no fuse. Authorities said they believed that Wade McKinney, 22, was intending to take the bomb out to the desert and explode it. The case is being forwarded to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for further investigation.

McKinney was booked into the Canyon County lockup on charges of unlawful possession of an explosive device, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving without privileges.
