Press: Arson, Assault Charges at North Idaho Hospital

Law enforcement in Coeur d'Alene said a bad situation turned to worse April 25, when a man who walked into a hospital emergency room was later locked up for arson and assault.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that 43-year-old Clark Richman checked himself into the Kootenai Medical Center's ER for an undisclosed illness and was released. Police said after Richman was discharged he set construction equipment, parked near the hospital, on fire.

A total of 19 firefighters and three fire engines from Coeur d'Alene's and Kootenai County's fire departments responded to the blaze.

When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they said Richman pulled a knife on a police officer and tried to kick another officer in the knee.

Richman is being held on $100,000 bail, charged with second-degree arson and aggravated assualt and battery on a police officer, all felonies.

The Press reports that Richman is a Denver resident but had currently lived in Sandpoint.
