Mountain Express: Sun Valley Police Chief Undergoes Emergency Heart Surgery, Considering Retirement

The chief of the Sun Valley Police Department has asked to be put on indefinite medical leave and is considering retirement.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports that Sun Valley Mayor Dewayne Briscoe has turned to former Blaine County Sheriff Walt Femling to act as the city's "temporary public safety administrator."

"[Police Chief Cameron Daggett] told me he wanted time to think about a lot of things, his overall situation," Briscoe told the Mountain Express.

Daggett had initially asked for two weeks of medical leave, but Briscoe said soon after, the police chief told the city's interim executive assistant to the mayor that he would be gone indefinitely.

Daggett underwent emergency open-heart surgery on Jan. 15, according to the Mountain Express. Daggett told the Mountain Express that his immediate focus was on getting healthy.
