Tribune: Sole Candidate to Show at Port of Lewiston Meeting Gets the Job

Officials at the Port of Lewiston didn't waste any time Wednesday in appointing a new commissioner to replace Dan Johnson, who has moved on to the Idaho State Senate.

This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that Mike Thompson, a part-time employee of the Southeast Washington Economic Development Association, was the only candidate out of nine applicants to attend Wednesday's meeting of the Port of Lewiston Commission. By the end of the meeting, he had the job.

Port Commissioner Jerry Klemm told the Tribune that he was a "little disappointed" more of the candidates didn't attend the meeting.

Thompson will fill the seat previously held by Lewiston GOP Sen. Dan Johnson until the next port commission election in 2014, when Thompson will have to decide if he wants to run for the same position.
